SWOCC Swim Champions in the Classroom

Men's swimming 3rd highest gpa in all collegiate swimming winter term

The Southwestern Oregon Community College Men's and Women's Swim teams have once again proven themselves to be champions both in the pool and in the classroom!

The Men's Swim Team was recently named the 2024-2025 NJCAA Swimming & Diving Academic Team of the Year for the 5th year in a row.  The announcement was made with the NJCAA Team and All-Academic Individual Awards publication https://www.njcaa.org/awards. The honor recognizes a staggering combined 3.74 men's team average GPA for the entire 2024-25 Academic year.  The women's team was second in the running for the title with the equally astonishing 3.74 team average GPA.

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released its Scholar All-America rankings earlier in the summer, and SWOCC stood at the very top academically during the championship season.  Among all the teams in the NJCAA, both SWOCC's Men's and Women's teams claimed the #1 academic ranking for Winter Term by wide margins:

  • Men: 3.80 GPA (next closest: 3.06)
  • Woman: 3.70 GPA (next closest: 3.12)

These dominant academic performances earned SWOCC a prominent feature in the CSCAA's national write up, a significant recognition for a program on the rise. Even more notably, SWOCC's Men's team GPA of 3.80 in the winter term tied for third highest in the nation across all divisions of collegiate swimming, including NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA.

  1. Colorado College (NCAA DIII) – 3.90 GPA
  2. Brown University (NCAA DI) – 3.83 GPA
  3. SWOCC (NJCAA), Washington University in St. Louis (NCAA DIII), and Washington & Lee University (NCAA DIII) – 3.80 GPA
SWOCC had 22 swimmers named for their individual accomplishments in the classroom to 2024-25 NJCAA All-Academic Teams as well as CSCAA Academic All-Americans.

These results come on the heels of a strong athletic season for SWOCC Swimming, continuing to establish the Lakers as one of the premier two-year college programs in the country.
