The Laker Volleyball team hosted the Southern Region NWAC volleyball x-over tournament featuring 2 teams from each of the 4 regions in the Northwest Athletic Conference. Each team played 1 best of 5 match and then 4 best of 3 matches against random, non-conference opponents. On Saturday the Lakers dropped their 3 matches to Green River (1-3), Bellevue (0-2) and Wenatchee Valley (1-2). On Sunday the Lakers faced Columbia Basin College in the early match of the day, but fell 0-2. They finished the tournament against Olympic College and pushed them to 3 sets finally falling. The Lakers will travel to New Hope Christian on Wednesday, the 25th for a non-conference match-up and then to Clackamas CC and Chemeketa the following weekend to resume conference play.
Both soccer teams competed this weekend against Lane CC from Eugene OR. The weather was wet and windy in Coos Bay, but both teams competed well in the elements and gave a good performance in their final home stand of the 2017-2018 season.
Men’s soccer fell at home this weekend to Lane CC 1-3. Anthoni Martin (Tulare, CA) scored the single goal for the Lakers and was assisted by Kuda Murasiranwa (Kamloops, BC). The Lakers will travel to Portland on Wednesday the 25th to finish their season.
Women’s soccer fell at home to Lane CC 0-2. The Lady Lakers will travel to Clackamas CC in Oregon City, OR on Wednesday to close out their season. Sophomores Kadie Forderer (North Bend, OR), Adisen Parsons (Casper, WY) and Crystal Rodriguez (Brookings, OR) were honored in a ceremony after the match for their 2 years playing soccer for Southwestern Oregon CC.
