Although the Lakers were defeated by a large margin, they did some solid racing coming off of a 2.5 week winter break and a hard few days of training prior to the meet. Coach Bullock saw some improvements, most notably Jake Wyer , who has just continued to improve throughout the season, swam a personal best time in the 200 free. Rena Krahn also swam a personal best in the 400IM.
Collin McGuire won both of his individual events. The Lakers had 3 others place 2nd in individual events: Piper Engler (200 back), Caleb Dean (200 back) and Shane Williams (200 breast). The women finished the meet off with a strong 2nd place showing in the 200 free relay.
The Lakers continue to see areas of needed improvement and know where to focus their efforts in the next 2 months in preparation for Nationals. The team is focused and ready to work hard in pursuit of their goals.
Coach Bullock is super proud of this group for their accomplishments in the classroom this fall. Both of the men and women’s teams found success in the classroom with the highest combined team GPAs in Laker Swimming history in fall term. They both met the requirements for recognition by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America as scholar all-American teams for the fall term. The Lakers plan to carry that momentum into the winter term as the team is poised to get a great start this week with hopes to continue that success in the classroom and carry it to the pool.
The next meet for the swim team is a double dual vs Pacific University and College of Idaho on Saturday 1/13 @ 10am at Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR.
