This is Coach Steve George’s second year as head coach for Southwestern. Steve is a native of Seattle, WA where he has been involved with volleyball for over 18 years.
Steve owns and directs a volleyball club there, and has coached many ages including his club’s U18 national travel teams, as well as a number of high school teams. He has raised 5 children, including three daughters who all play volleyball. The youngest two are currently playing on college scholarships.
Steve has coached in a number of sports and approximately 30 teams to date, and most of them have been volleyball. For the last 8 years he has dedicated himself to this sport full time after retiring from a career in commercial construction management and estimating of government and military projects. He now coaches volleyball teams all year around, and runs volleyball skill clinics throughout the year, and camps for younger players in the summer.
Steve attended the University of Washington while working on his MBA, and is planning on furthering his education in sports related fields such as fitness and injury prevention, and sports nutrition programs. He is a Gold Medal Squared certified coach and considers himself to be mentored by some of the top coaches in the country while constantly continuing his coaching education.
Steve’s hobbies include technical diving with rebreathers, and sailing his boat for 2-3 week getaways to the San Juan Islands and Canadian Gulf Islands, when he gets a chance in the summer months.
