On Saturday April 14th, the Lakers Track 7 Field teams traveled to Lacey, Washington to compete in the SMU Jay Hammer Invitational at St. Martin’s University. Constant cold rain and wind won the day with 6 NWAC colleges and another dozen 4 year universities attending. Even in foul conditions, improvements from the Lakers included: Ryleigh Cobb in 100m, 200m, and 4 x 100m Relay; about 8 feet improvement for Kia Collins in Hammer; Madison Davis in 200m; Lou Mei Gutsch in 3000m; Destiny Martinez in Hammer; Lillian Weatherman in 100m and 4 x 100m Relay; Ethan File in Long Jump and 200m, Angel Moreno in 100m; Kuda Murasiranwa in 100m; an outstanding, nearly 14 foot gain for Bryan Terry in Hammer.

Notably, Erica Hughlett earned her first Athletics marks ever in Javelin after long months of practice. Way to go Erica! Also earning first competitive marks of the season were returning Sophomores Presley LeBlanc in 100m, 200m, and 4 x 100m Relay and Lexi Lofthouse in those three events plus Long Jump.

Overall, top 8 places for the SWOCC included the Women’s 4 x 100m Relay of Ryleigh, Lillian, Presley, and Lexi taking 3rd and the Men’s 4 x 100m Relay of Carter Rudisill, Bryan Hunt, Angel, and Kuda taking 5th. Individuals placing in the top 8 included Christian Ambrogio going 8th in Triple Jump, Kuda 3rd in both the Men’s 100m and 200m, and Bryan earned 8th in Hammer.
